Family Mentoring Program
Designed to help families who are at risk for
homelessness reach self-sufficiency, the
Family Mentoring Program matches families in
need with volunteer mentors who serve as
friends, advocates and bridges to the
community.

Volunteer mentors work with client families on
problem-solving skills and identification of
helpful resources. Volunteers and clients are
matched based on the families' needs and the
volunteers' skills, talents and interests.

Four criteria must be met before a family is
enrolled in the program. The families must be:
  • at risk for homelessness
  • at least one adult and one dependent child
  • willing (have the motivation to succeed)
  • able (have a job and ability to improve their
    circumstances)

Once enrolled, a Family Service Coordinator
and volunteer mentor are assigned to work
with the family for a period of 6 to 18 months.
This team helps guide families on a path to
self-sufficiency by working with them to identify
individual goals and develop a road map for
achieving those goals.
